Hotels & Paradores

History

The first Parador de Turismo, founded in Gredos in the province of Avila, was opened by King Alfonso XIII seventy years ago. This was for various reasons: in order to promote the Sierra de Gredos region and its hunting riches, to provide a hotel facility in the area and to lay the foundations for a modern Spanish hotel infrastructure.

Located in extraordinary natural settings or in the most beautiful historical and artistic surroundings, the 85 Paradores include former palaces, ancient convents, medieval castles or buildings conceived to provide a unique service, featuring along routes, in cities and in towns, and always providing an artistic and welcoming perspective in the essential part they play in the history and culture of Spain.
